Kilograms to Grams
1 kg = 1,000 g.
A kilogram is 1,000 grams, so move the decimal point three places: 0.5 kg is 500 g, 1.5 kg is 1,500 g and 0.25 kg is 250 g. The pound column helps when a recipe mixes metric and US weights.

Using metric recipes
Metric recipes move between kilograms and grams freely: 1.2 kg of flour is simply 1,200 g. If your scale only reads in grams up to a limit, weigh large amounts in batches and add them up. A 2.5 kg bag of flour is 5.51 lb and holds about 20 cups.
Kilograms, grams and pounds in the kitchen
Metric packaging makes kilograms common: flour and sugar often come in 1 kg or 2 kg bags, butter in 250 g blocks, and meat by the kilo. One kilogram is a little more than 2 pounds (2.2 lb), so a recipe asking for 2 lb of potatoes needs about 0.907 kg. For small amounts, 1 gram is about the weight of a quarter teaspoon of sugar.
