KITCHEN TOOLS
Kitchen conversion tools
Every tool on the site uses the same grams-per-cup density for each ingredient, so a result from the pounds calculator matches the charts and the recipe scaler. Pick the direction you need:
- Pounds to cups – Turn a weight from a package or a European recipe into cups for any ingredient in the database.
- Ounces to cups – Convert weight ounces to cups; for fluid ounces, remember a cup is always 8 fl oz.
- Grams to cups – The quickest way to follow a metric recipe with American measuring cups.
- Cups to pounds – Work out how much to buy when a recipe lists cups and the store sells by weight.
- Cups to ounces – Find the weight of a cup of flour, sugar, butter and other staples.
- Cups to grams – Convert a cup-based recipe to grams so you can weigh everything on a scale.
- Recipe scaler – Multiply or divide every ingredient when you change the number of servings.
- Conversion charts – Printable-style tables for pounds to cups, spoons, liquid measures and metric weights.
Which tool should I use?
If the number in your recipe is a weight (pounds, ounces, grams), start with one of the weight-to-cups calculators. If you have cups and want to weigh instead, use cups to grams. For pure volume questions such as cups in a quart or tablespoons in a cup, no ingredient is needed; the liquid conversion chart answers them directly.
Worked examples

- Ounces to cups: A 12 oz bag of chocolate chips is about 2 cups.
- Grams to cups: 250 g of all-purpose flour is about 2 cups.
- Cups to pounds: A recipe needing 6 cups of flour uses about 1.65 lb, so buy a 2 lb bag.
- Cups to grams: 1½ cups of butter is about 340.5 g.
- Recipe scaler: doubling 1¾ cups of milk gives 3½ cups; halving it gives ⅞ cup (¾ cup plus 2 tablespoons).
